Daily, the competition between the telecommunication companies is getting worst. Most of the carriers use “posters”, people who go online and write triumphs about their service, while trying to bury others.
Four are the most common practices in this undeclared war :
a) Hire visitors in popular web forums and add their “unbiased opinion”. A great example is slickdeals and fatwallet. The last has also a $1000 minimum to allow you to post your deals “freely”.
b) The same visitors when they see an offer from the a company try to present a better rate or “kill” the offer with complains.
For example on voipguides.blogspot.com I found the following post :
“I have ordered yupee package on Feb 2008 and paid CAD 83.90 by pay pal and haven’t received anything from this company till now. Don’t buy any thing from Yupee Phone as they steal money”.
The problem is we began offering our services to retail customers in May 2008…
c) Cheat on Google Adwords and other advertising agencies to increase the cost of advertising for the rest of the companies. A specific telecommunication company is buying “new Google Adwords accounts” (which come with a free voucher of $50 to $75) to advertise their services. They pay up to $14 per single click. Try to compete that!
d) Hired guns are the deadliest. Some companies hire professional fraudsters (usually from China). These people open accounts on your website using stolen credit cards. Then they use the call back to call very expensive destinations, trying to get you out of business.
The best is that these people OWN mobile companies in countries like Bulgaria, Congo, Lichtenstein and others. They file for a license and never create a real company. Then they announce their own rates (which are very expensive) and use small companies to terminate calls to them with stolen credit cards. This way they make millions out of regulatory costs, while forcing you to go out of business.
We had our share from all of the above. Nowadays we discover fraud long before Paypal does. With simple programming, logic and a Security Department that verifies all new accounts manually, we have nothing to be afraid.
The only thing I am afraid, is getting too strict and be scared of everyone.
